The Application Process
Most of our referrals come from prison officials prior to the release of the inmate. We also get referrals from homeless shelters, substance abuse treatment centers, and self referrals from ex-offenders already released from prison.
The application process has three parts:
ONE
The applicant requests a faxed or e-mailed application packet which explains our program. The packet includes a Personal Data Sheet(PDS) which must be filled out and faxed back to us.
TWO
The PDS and the inmate’s public prison records (PPR) are reviewed with the applicant during a face to face or phone interview.
THREE
The applicant’s complete file containing information from PDA, PPR and the interview goes before the Review Board for approval or denial. The Review Board is made up of the residents presently in the Eureka House.
Processing Time
An application can be processed in as little as one week depending on the weekly program scheduling. Typically, we require applicants to apply at least 3 months prior to being released from prison. However, as we make efforts to cooperate with applicants’ Home Plan, we occasionally have a waiting list up to 6 months.
Orientation
Residents are assessed for any physical and psychological needs they may have. When necessary, referrals are made to the appropriate community agency to provide services that we are not equipped to provide for the new resident. The resident is provided with a new set of clothing and personal items if needed. Food is also provided for residents until they receive food stamps or gain employment.
